The Institute for the Advancement of Philosophy for Children , Montclaire State University,
to be held at, Mendham, NJ. -  August 2nd-4th, 2014
This international seminar is geared toward both novice and experienced graduate students, teachers, professors who have interest or experience in using the Philosophy for Children curriculum and methodology around the world. In this Seminar participants will: experience and practice facilitating a Community of Philosophical Inquiry with adults; cultivate a philosophical ear by learning to recognize philosophical dimensions of experience and philosophical issues in texts; enhance their awareness of effective dialogic practices through the use of various forms of assessment; practice using Philosophy for Children curriculum materials, and explore some of the theoretical dimensions of Philosophy for Children, community of inquiry pedagogy and philosophical curriculum construction.

Every summer, in this little village of Burgundy, gather about 30-40 persons involved in philosophical practice (students, teachers, professors, counselors, trainers) gather in order to reflect on their work and improve professionally. The conference brings together academics across disciplines and nations to explore children’s possible futures.  Keynote speakers: Prof. Joseph LoBianco (University of Melbourne) ‘Children growing up multilingual today: what does the future hold?’, David Istance (senior analyst OECD) ‘Educators Reflecting on the Future: International Insights from OECD’  and Lesley Riddoch (award-winning journalist and broadcaster) ‘What Scotland’s children need to flourish’. While this conference is not specifically focused on PwC, the organisers have proactively sought papers from the P4C community.

This autumn Kristof van Rossem and Victoria Chernenko will hold a seminar on philosophical practice in Belgium. The seminar is interesting for anyone who works in education, studies or teaches philosophy, interested in self-development and simply likes to think. The main focus of our work will be on questioning and critical thinking and how mastering these skills can allow us to be better at leading group discussions and working with individuals (both adults and children).
