“What kind of a person am I?”: “What kind of a world do I want to live in?” : Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) Development and Philosophy for Children (P4C)

One of the aims of P4C is to open a safe educational space where children and young people can explore what kind of people they want to be and the kind of world they would like to live in. This sometimes means engaging with controversial issues but always with the issues that children value and which are important to them. In this year’s conference we will be exploring the links P4C has with promoting children’s Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development as well as a Rights Respecting Education that takes seriously the United Nations Convention on the rights of the child (UNCRC) and Religious Education (RE) as well as preparing children for life in contemporary Britain and the world. This conference will give you a space to think about significant educational issues of our time in relation to P4C whatever stage your school is at on its P4C journey.

‘P4C – the spark that lights the fire’
